FYCD North America：Harmony in Solidarity
Educating the Tao Volunteers
The heat of the summer cannot block our passion to learn Tao; the difficulty of the challenges will not prevent us from propagating Tao. In August of 2018, after almost a year of planning and organizing, the “Seminar on Renovating the Educational Plans of Tao Classes in the United States and Canada” took place on August 11th and August 12th.
A Grand Reunion of Chong De Volunteers from the United States and Canada
Volunteers from Tao communities in various parts of the United States and Canada congregated in Chong Hui Temple for a grand reunion. There were approximately 450 Tao seniors from San Francisco, San Jose, Vancouver, Seattle, Toronto, New York, Boston, North Carolina, Chicago, the central western states (primarily from Houston), and Los Angeles. Tao seniors came together to reach consensus on improving Tao education in the spirit of Chong De, accomplishing the goals of securing foundation and elevating achievement, and improving the quality of teamwork in Tao cultivation and Tao propagation.
Cultivation of the Tao Field Deeply Rooted in the Tao Heritage
Although Tao members came from different places, the hope for propagating Tao to thank the Grace of Heaven was the same. Although responsibilities might be different, the mission to enlighten the living beings and light up the world with wisdom was the same. The attendees were focused and earnest, and their spirit for learning was as bright as the California sun. Everyone was participating in this holy event with enthusiasm and energy.
United in Harmony and Effortless Action from Wisdom
Resolute volunteers are the reasons that a Tao society thrives. Gratitude is the reason that a Tao society lasts. The transmitting masters and the lecturers who traveled long distances from Taiwan to teach were truly appreciated. Every participant was rewarded with insight and joy from the approximately 50 classes during the two days of seminar.
Remembering the Everlasting Love of the Senior Elder
In the evening of August 11th, “Night of Chong De—Commemoration of the Tenth Anniversary of the Passing of Never Resting Bodhisattva” also took place. Transmitting Master Shih-Ming Hwang welcomed everyone with his kind remarks. Four female transmitting masters (from San Francisco, New York, Los Angeles, and Vancouver) shared touching stories of Never Resting Bodhisattva propagating Tao in the United States and in Canada. Moving tribute comprised of holy songs also expressed the Tao members’ deep appreciation toward our Senior Elder—the Never Resting Bodhisattva.
Establishing a New Landmark of Chong De in Los Angeles
In order to expand the services to living beings and to provide a better environment to learn about Tao, Transmitting Master Winston Kuo recounted the instructions of the Holy Teacher: “Build a great holy sanctuary for Heaven, for living beings, and for the Tao cultivators.” Transmitting Master Peter Peng then spoke about the vision for the Chong De Multi-purpose Cultural and Educational Park. The best gift for commemorating the tenth anniversary of the passing of Never Resting Bodhisattva would be to establish a new Chong De landmark and to light up the world with wisdom.
Little Angels Class and Classics Recitation Camp
Promoting and Continuing Chinese Culture
The holy spirits instructed in various temple host classes around the United States and Canada that it is necessary to promote Chinese culture in North America. “There should be construction of multi-purpose facilities to continue promoting the education of Chinese culture,” Jigong Living Buddha instructed. “Shoulder different responsibilities for promoting Chinese culture,” Baishui Shengdi instructed. These instructions are indicative of the meaning and the mission of education of the classics and of Chinese culture, which will serve as a foundation for nurturing Tao volunteers and for the propagation of Tao all over the world.
Chinese Classics Recitation Camp and Classics Education Training
In conjunction with the seminar, the week-long Little Angels Class and Classics Recitation Camp starting on August 11th and four nights of Classics Education Training starting on August 13th were also held. The hope is that classics education will take hold in the Tao communities around the United States and Canada. Thus, little angels and teenagers in North America can have an opportunity to be educated in the classics and in the Chinese language. Further, they can learn about Chinese culture and solidify the foundation of their understanding in Tao.
Warmth of the Tao Society and Devotion of the Volunteers
Thanks to all the volunteer teachers for their true devotion, the little angels, dressed in their yellow polo shirts, demonstrated their achievement with innocence and pride. The selfless dedication and the limitless love of the volunteers were manifested by the children’s performance. Such is the preciousness of Tao; such is the hope and the future of the Tao society!
Hand in Hand All Together, Happily Moving Forward
Thanks to the lecturers from Guanyin Classics School in Taiwan, thanks to Lecturer ChiChi Liao from Chong De Temple in Boston, and thanks to Lecturer Wendy Cheng and the Chong De Youth volunteers in Los Angeles, parents and children could hold hands together and participate in the camp at Chong Hui Temple with joy. This great event truly expressed the Chong De ideal of “unification of the three sections.”
