2025《與佛有約 貫古通今》經典教育推廣中心英文經典聖訓營心得

感謝天恩師德、白水聖帝以及不休息菩薩在天的聖靈護佑、點道師慈悲、講師和各位前賢們好，感謝大家給後學機會參加2025年6月7及8日在臺灣發一崇德光慧全球道務中心舉辦的英文經典聖訓研習營。後學真的很高興、也很興奮能夠參於這次的聖事。

Thanks to the Grace of Heaven, the virtues of Holy Teachers, the mercy of Lao Qian Ren and Never-Resting Bodhisattva, Tao Transmitting Masters, Lecturers and Tao Seniors, for giving me a chance to take part in the Sutra and Classics Camp at Guang Hui Global Tao Affairs Centre of Fa-Yi Chong-De Tao Community on 7th and 8th of June, 2025.  I am truly delighted and very excited to be able to join this holy event.

本次的經典聖訓研習營主要取用了四本主要的經典，分別是老子之《道德經》、後東方六祖慧能之《六祖壇經》，孔子之《論語》和曾子之《大學》。每部經典都有其獨特的特徵和涵義，這在很大程度上取決於其歷史背景、宗旨和主題。

This year, the Sutra and Classics Camp selected three (3) main sutras and classics namely Dao De Jin of Lao Zhi, The Platform Sutra of Patriarch Hui Neng, The Sixth Patriarch of the Post Eastern Era, The Analects of Confucius and The Great Learning of Zeng Zhi.  Every sutra and classic have its unique features and meanings which are largely affected by its historical background, purpose and theme.

老子《道德經》，是一部中國春秋時代的古籍，有超過2500年的歷史，全球翻譯了共75種語言，成為當代除了《聖經》以外外譯最多的一本書。《道德經》的内容涵蓋天地之道，萬物有道，君王無爲治國之道以及人人如何效法有德君王。《六祖壇經》字字見性，是修道人明白性理心法必讀的一本經典。從《論語》中可以領悟孔老夫子教導世人爲人處事，與萬物相通，亦是白陽弟子修持聖賢之道必修之寶典。《大學》是四書入門之必修科，正己成人，由個人修身做起，齊家，治國、平天下為最終目標。

Lao Zhi's Dao De Jing is an ancient book from the Spring and Autumn Period of China with a history of more than 2,500 years.  It has been translated into 75 languages around the world, becoming the most translated book in contemporary times except for the Bible.  The content of the Dao De Jing covers the way of heaven and earth, the truth of all things and matters, how the king can govern the country by the way of nature and how everyone can emulate the virtuous king.  " The Platform Sutra" of the Sixth Patriarch explains the true dharma profoundly.  It is a classic to be read by Tao cultivators in order to understand the dharma of true nature.  From "The Analects of Confucius", we can understand Confucius' teachings on how to behave and communicate with all things. It is also a must-read classic for Bai-Yang disciples in practicing the way of Saints and Sages. "The Great Learning" is a compulsory study for the introductory lesson of the Four Classics.  It aims to improve oneself and extend to helping others, starting with personal cultivation, and the ultimate goals are extended to regulate the family, govern the country, and bring peace to the world.

四書是中國儒家的經典書籍，又稱為四子書，是指《大學》、《論語》、《中庸》與《孟子》。濟公活佛老師慈訓：「平日讀《四書》嗎？ 不讀聖賢之書， 哪能體會聖賢之志？ 不讀聖賢之書，哪能體會聖人之心？不讀聖賢之書， 哪能安邦定國？」所謂不讀《四書》，將會四輸：「言出無章、修道無方、生命無光、志向無剛」。因此，修道人必須讀《四書》，從經典入手，依照聖賢之教誨，二六時中，如顔回夫子一般，拳拳服膺，不離正道，實踐人生修行的功夫。

The Four Classics are the four Chinese ancient books, so called the Books of Four Saints and Sages (written and/or compiled by Four Saints and Sages in ancient China).  The Four Classics refer to The Analects of Confucius, The Great Learning, and Doctrine of the Mean, and Mencius.  Master Ji-Gong Living Buddha’s compassionate messages said: “Do you read the Four Classics on a daily basis?  For not reading the books of Saints and Sages, how can one understand the aspirations of Saints and Sages?  For not reading the books of Saints and Sages, how can one understand the thoughts of Saints and Sages?  For not reading the books of Saints and Sages, how can one govern the society and stabilize the country?” There was a saying that “If one does not read the Four Classics, one will incur “Four Loses”: “Speaking without proper order, cultivating Tao without direction, living a life without brightness and having ambition without disciplines.”  Therefore, Tao cultivators must read the Four Classics, start learning the classics, and follow the teachings of Saints and Sages. Like Master Yan Hui, always adhere to Tao faithfully and stay on the right path of Tao and apply the practices in life.

營隊裡的小組討論和活動很有趣，讓團隊成員聚集在一起，讓每個人互相交流，分享對所講主題的意見和更多想法。如果可以，建議研習營增加以文字即時翻譯的練習。例如，每位學員翻譯經典或聖訓其中一部分。接著，展示標準譯文，進行對照，再選擇最恰當及適合的版本，合併成一篇完整的全文。譯文即可用於進修班課程教材，亦可考慮以研習營及團隊之名，發佈在一貫道、發一崇德雜誌或電子報刊物等，以此激勵並表揚團隊的合作精神，用心參與及貢獻，一舉多得。

Group discussion and activities in the camp were interesting and bring the team members together, and allow everyone to communicate among each other and share opinions and more ideas about the topics delivered.  If possible, proposed to add more exercises on instant translation in written format.  For example, each participant chooses Buddhas’ compassionate words or holy revelations, and tries to translate a portion.  Next, show and compare with the standard translation and select the most appropriate version.  Finally, combine and make the content into a complete one.  The completed works can be used for Tao class materials and perhaps publish in I-Kuan Tao magazine, Chong-De magazine or ePaper. By this way, team members are motivated and recognized for their involvement and dedication in translation in the camp. As such, the results are hence multiple under strong team spirit and cooperation.

經典聖訓研習營可以激發所有參與者對翻譯的興趣，現場翻譯是爲了學習及驗收參與者的翻譯能力，看見更明顯的、實質的和即時的成果。透過團隊共同的努力，讓每個參與者都明白，用語言或文字的方式，完成課堂材料的翻譯是至關重要的，而且是可行的。

Sutra & Classics Camp can stimulate all participants' interest in translation. On-site translation is meant for learning and testing translation ability of the participants, observe more clearly, the quality and immediate results. Through the joint efforts of the team, each participant realizes that whether by verbal language or written format, completing the translation of class materials is crucial and feasible.

翻譯白陽聖訓是為了提供更多修辦者，來自天上的福音，仙佛傳達最新的訊息，啟迪每個修行人的心靈。而對於一貫道道場，翻譯經典和聖訓，使其成爲的進修班的課程教材，以用於海内外之弘道更是至關重要的。

The purpose of translating the White-Yang Holy Revelations or Sacred Scriptures is to provide more Tao members with the gospels from heaven, to convey the latest messages from the Immortals and Buddhas, and to enlighten the hearts of every practitioner.  As for I-Kuan Tao Communities, translating Sutra, Classics and Holy Revelations and making them into course materials for Tao classes, is actually even more crucial for the usage in Tao propagation both locally and abroad.

時至三曹大開普渡，為了弘揚大道、開展道務、教化世人、培育人才、增進道學，促進修道和悟道，道場迫切需要將經典與聖訓翻譯成英文。將聖賢的慈語，翻譯成淺而易懂的道理，讓眾生能夠理解的語言，明白心法的本體，並達到教化的作用。

With the Mass Salvation of the Three Realms, there is an urgent need for the translations of sutra, classics and holy revelations into English to promote the Great Tao, spread Tao propagation, educate sentient beings in the secular world, train and nurture talents, enhance Tao learning, and promote Tao cultivation and enlightenment.  Translating Saints and Sages' compassionate words into truth which is simple and easy to understand, enable sentient beings to comprehend the origin of true Dharma and ultimately achieve educational purpose.

翻譯是一門深奧的功夫，首先當要明白主題與内涵。翻譯經訓者，爲人謙恭好學，不斷的精進，多參考，多比對，多學習，多請教和多鍛煉。因爲一山還有一山高，人間處處有高手，所以翻譯者要嚴謹、小心與包容，不可自專自大。況且差之毫厘，謬之千里，錯誤的翻譯，所面對是就是牛馬風不相及，尷尬和誤導的情況。

Translation is a profound work of art, beginning with an understanding of the theme and its implications.  Translators of the sutras, classics and holy revelations should be humble and studious, constantly striving for improvement, making frequent references, comparisons, learning, consultation, and practice.  Due to there is always a mountain higher than the other, and there are always better and experts abound, translators must be rigorous, cautious and tolerate, and never be self-dominance nor arrogant.  Moreover, a slight mistake can lead to a huge error.  Wrong translation can lead to situations that are completely irrelevant, embarrassing and misleading.

想要翻譯得通透，必須要建立良好的正知正見和扎實的道學，以四書為根本，以經典和聖訓為導航，以實務及修持為基礎，因為翻譯沒有最好，只有更好的。

In order to achieve a thorough and correct translation, one must build up right mindset and right views and a solid foundation in Tao study. Use the Four Classics as the base, sutras, classics and holy revelations as the guides, practical experiences and self-cultivation as the foundations, because there is no best translation, only better ones.

建議翻譯《論語》的白陽聖訓，特別是「訓中訓」和「白話訓」。聖訓的精髓和內容，是「道」在日常生活中的基礎，  是現代的金玉良言，與白陽修士的修行及實踐息息相關，再者，聖訓也有益於班務的應用和道場之運作。

Propose to translate Bai-Yang Holy Revelations of “The Analects”, especially the Revelations within Revelations and the Conversational Revelations.  The essence and contents of the Holy Revelations are the fundamentals in daily life, the modern or contemporary golden advice，related closely to Bai-Yang Tao cultivators in Tao cultivation and practices.  Moreover, Holy Revelations are useful and applicable for Class Affairs and the operations of Tao Communities.

聖賢與仙佛所言的現代白陽聖訓，內容包羅萬有，涉及層面廣大，天時機運，道場的格局、方向及運作，對於人、事、物各方位，都在不斷的提點修辦方針，是修道人身、心、靈真實的救贖。白陽聖訓亦包涵經典的要義，很多時候其内容皆和經典互相呼應，因此而廣汎為道場（道内）、大衆（道外）及學者（各界）所參考，例如著書、作文、論文及各類文獻上都是常見。

The Holy Revelation in modern time of Bai-Yang by Saints, Sages and Buddhas is all-encompassing and covers a wide range of aspects, including the time and destiny set by heaven, the visions, directions and operation of the Tao community, and from the perspectives of people, things and matters, constantly reminds the principles of Tao cultivation and propagation.  It is the true salvation of the physical, mind and spirit of Tao cultivators.  The Bai-Yang Holy Revelation of the Saints and Sages also contains the key principles of Sutra and Classics, and very often, the contents of Holy Revelations reflect or echo the essence of Sutra and Classics.  Hence, Holy Revelations are widely used as references by Tao Communities (withing Tao Society), the general public (outsider or non-Tao members) and scholars (from all sectors), such as publications of books, essays, papers and various writings.

一貫道之修道者，尤其是講師，身擔神聖的使命與天職，代天宣化，授課解惑，見道成道。所以，講師必須精進研究諸家經典與聖訓的精髓和真諦，因為它們是修道與修行的基礎和支柱，也是講課與傳道時需要應用的性理心法之寶藏。

I-Kuan Tao cultivators, especially Tao lecturers, carry sacred mission and holy position, ought to be diligent in preaching of Tao or messages from Heaven, giving lectures of Tao in order to clear doubts, and helping Tao members along the journey of Tao cultivation.  Hence, Tao lecturers must strive to put in great efforts in studying the   essence and truth of various sutra, classics, scriptures and holy revelations because they are the foundations and pillars of Tao cultivation and practices, and they are also the treasure of the original nature or true dharma that need to be applied when lecturing in Tao classes and preaching in Tao propagation.

在道場進修班的課堂上，在社教講座裏，在各教的交流平臺的對話中，經典與聖訓，更是不可缺乏在核心研究或重心探討。聖賢與仙佛的教誨是真理，一貫真傳之真理，是為普渡衆生而寫。現代的白陽聖訓，乃上天老所降，既是為讓修道者能夠理解、悟道，進而挽救衆生的心靈，改過自新，發心修辦，達到傳道佈德的目的。

In the classrooms of Tao classes at Tao communities, in the lectures of social education, and in the exchanges and dialogues between various religions, the Sutra, Classics and Holy Revelations are the indispensable core topics for studies and focus for explorations. The teachings of Saints, Sages, the Immortals and Buddhas are the truth, the true transmission of oneness in I-Kuan Tao, which are written for the mass salvation of sentient beings. The contemporary Holy Revelations of Bai-Yang are descended from Heavenly Mater in order to enable better understanding and comprehension of Tao for Tao cultivators, and further save the souls of sentient beings, reform for new lives, and cultivate and practice with a sprouting heart, so as to achieve the objectives of spreading the truth of Tao and virtues.

1996年10月19日，於發一崇德美國洛杉磯道場光明聖道院的首屆英文法會，濟公活佛慈示：「道是普及萬向，超越語言和文化的界。」一貫道白陽弟子學、修、講、辦、行道，目的是爲了傳道，濟世救人。

On October 19, 1996, at the first English Tao Seminar at Guang-Ming Sheng-Dao Temple in Fa-Yi Chong-De Los Angeles Tao Community, USA, Ji-Gong Living Buddha compassionately said, "Tao is universal and transcends language and cultural boundaries."  I-Kuan Tao Bai-Yang Tao members learn, cultivate, preach, propagate and practice Tao with the goal of spreading Tao and saving sentient beings in this earthly world.

一貫道如今道傳萬國九州，掌握正確語文的翻譯，才可以成全道親，培訓人才，開創道場。了解各國文化，透過翻譯，用語言和文字，傳達簡單而易懂的道理，讓每一位衆生皆得救，一貫道能夠傳承永續，以臻大同世界。

I-Kuan Tao now has been propagated to many countries around the world. Mastering accurate language translation is essential in order to help Tao members in Tao learning, cultivation, and propagation, train and nurture talents and establish Tao societies.  Understanding the cultures of various countries through translations and using languages and texts to convey simple principles which are easy to comprehend, can bring salvation to every sentient being, ensure eternal inheritance of I-Kuan Tao and further materialize a World of Great Harmony.

最後，後學希望將來能再參加英文經典聖訓研習營。莫忘我們與經訓之約--就是與上帝和衆生有約。祝福英語班，神聖的團隊，精進更上一層樓，聖凡如意。祈願上帝庇佑，謝謝！
